What We Do

Connecting, Learning and Solving Problems

A guiding principle is to empower women to advocate and ensure diverse pathways to meaningful participation allowing women to make decisions that affect their lives.

Since 2019 we have facilitated structured conversations about the challenges faced by women and the priorities for change. These narratives shaped our vision and principles and development priorities. Emerging from this are several projects based on real insights of stakeholders about is needed and what we can achieve.

What Did We Learn?

The insights provided pointed to a strong association between poverty, inequalities women face and poor mental health producing a devastating cycle of disadvantage. These interactions are complex, multidirectional and impacted by social, political and economic variables creating cycles of poverty and ill health. To counter these cycles of disadvantages requires a sustained comprehensive and collaborative approach.

What are we doing?

Women Colab is about bringing women together to identify issues and acquire the capabilities and confidence to build the solutions needed.

Through the dialogue to date we have prioritised projects focusing on: inclusive learning, fighting poverty and inclusive mental health.

  • Creating Digital Space for Inclusive Learning
  • Fighting Poverty
  • Fostering Inclusive Mental Health

Fighting Poverty

One of the biggest concerns of women in our community is the inability to pay for material needs for their families or take part in activities that are accepted part of daily life.

We want to fight poverty by a creating pathways to economic wellbeing by creating accessible and equitable opportunities for learning, employment and enterprise.

Lets work together to fight food poverty where too many children in the UK are malnourished and go to bed hungry

Inclusive Mental Health

We are excited to be developing with our volunteers an inclusive mental health support. An Inclusive approach is about equitable and accessible support to all that gives voice to those experiencing mental health. Insights from women in our community show that it needs to be sensitive to culture, stigmas and the disproportionate effects felt groups of women in our community. Thus it's about providing a safe space and opportunities for women to get information, support and share experiences.

We are empowering women in our community to build an inclusive mental health platform

In a short space of time a learned a lot about setting and managing social media accounts and using different online tools. I have an expert mentor that shares online tutorials and information. Right now am learning how to setup and manage an questionnaire that we will use for online assessments and basic diagnostics.

Our Approach

Our approach is based on us Theory of Change (ToC )to stimulate and support social innovation and realise social impact. ToC explains our Women Colab's intended path to impact by outlining causal linkages in an initiative. Our intended impact is realised by connecting shorter-term, intermediate, and long-term outcomes.
These linkages are based on our rationale of why and how outcomes are linked in promoting women's wellbeing.

Using this approach facilitates structured conversations around our strategy by mapping out the crucial activities and challenges involved  and how they relate to each other.  At the heart of our approach is a community-led and collaborative approach focused on bottom-up sustainable impacts driven by personal and collective innovation.
